Taking on a Franchise orStarting Alone

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

I have often been asked what the best way to start a business is You can buy a franchise or start your own business from the ground up. This ultimately depends on what you want to put in and what you expect out.

There are many franchises available to buy.Your local town center is probable full of franchises. When you purchase a franchise you are basically getting a business in a box. When you buy into a franchise, many aspects of the business including marketing are taken care of off. There are many different franchises available. Some will give you the business name, equipment and everything you need for start up, others only give you the basics and you still have to buy or lease a location, purchase equipment and the inventory you will need.

The negatives of buying a franchise however are that they are typically inflexible in terms to making it your own, and you must pay for the privilege up front. Visit the Key Mergers website for more information or if you would like to f you would like to buy a business or even to sell one.

Starting your own business from scratch however means that you can grow the business organically over time, you can limit your initial outlay and you can be as creative with the direction of your business as you like. However, your model may not be tried and tested and you will likely have to develop your own support network from the ground up along with your business.

the reality is, the factors determining whether to buy a franchise or start a business from scratch are dependent on what your want to get out of the enterprise. Its a choice only you can make.

Florida Power and Light Company Given Go Ahead for Solar Power Facilities

Friday, July 18th, 2008

On the 15 July, the Florida Public Services Commission granted FPL permission to begin work on three major Solar Power plants across the state.

The first of these projects is ‘The Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center’, scheduled for construction at the company’s already existent ‘Martin Plant’ site. It is expected to be operational in 2010, and will produce a maximum 75W output. It will combine steam with solar thermal power in order to reduce the amount of natural gas used in the energy conversion process.

Second is ‘The DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center’ which is due for completion and operation in 2009. It is named after the county in which it’s being developed, and boasts a 25MW photovoltaic maximum capacity. This figure, when reached, would make it the largest photovoltaic center in the world.

The final project in the trio is ‘The Space Coast Next Generation Solar Energy Center’, and is the product of a partnership between NASA and the FPL. It has a photovoltaic capacity of 10MW, and will reportedly serve the needs of more than 2500 people. It is expected to be operational in 2009, and is to be built on the same grounds as the ‘Kennedy Space Center’.

With the green light now given, it signifies another step towards a greater and more proficient level of sustainable energy in the US. FPL reports that - pending the successful completion of the three plants - the energy saved would amount to the prevention of 3.5m tons of various green house gases over the three power plant’s lifetimes. The Environmental Protection Agency calculate that this has the same effect as 25,000 cars being removed from the roads of the United States each year.

Along with ‘Solar Tres’ the European Union commissioned large scale Solar Thermal Power plant, the Florida plants contribute to a Trans-Atlantic development of sustainable energy sites. Add ‘Nevada Solar One’ - the replacement for ‘Solar One’ and ‘Two’, on which ‘Solar Tres’ was based - and the number of substantially funded solar powered facilities is growing.

And it is not just Europe and North America that has been affected: The Japanese Companies ‘Kansai Electrical Power’ and ‘Sharp Japan’ announced plans in June for two solar power plants to be built under the ‘Sakai City Waterfront Mega Solar Power Generation Plan’, and are expected to be operational in 2010. The two sites are reported to have a combined maximum power of 38,000KW, and will therefore become two of the largest solar powered sites in the world.

Three of the world’s biggest political players, then, are continuing their commitment to sustainable energy sources. Include ‘Kigali Solaire’, the largest solar power plant in Africa - opened in Rwanda in 2007 - plus a maximum capacity 400KW photovoltaic array in New South Wales, Austrialia, and it amounts to sustainable energy in four of the six world continents.

Perhaps, then, the FPL centers are simply bucking the trend.

The Simple System For Finding A Killer Product And Identifying A Hot Niche!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Creating your own products is not difficult. However, it does take a little time to get it done, create a sales letter for it, work on the site, test it out, etc.

Since you may be short on time (and money), one method you can use is to start by looking for existing products that you could acquire resell rights to or become an affiliate of.

You can go to www.clickbank.com and browse through their Marketplace for a product you can affiliate with. I like clickbank because they automatically (and instantly) transfer your commissions into your account. You don’t have to depend on the product owner’s schedule to receive timely commissions. And, you can become an affiliate of all of their products at no charge.

You could also go to www.google.com (or even Yahoo) and search for sites selling recipes, recipe books, cookbooks, etc. and look for sites you could affiliate with. It would be to your advantage to work with sites/products that offer a generous commission (at least 50%.)

Tip: As you look through these sites, pay attention to how professional the sites look, how convincing the sales letter is, and also how soon after the sale they send out commissions. If you personally feel good about the site, see some great testimonials, and feel that you would want to do business with that company, you’ve probably found a good business to affiliate with.

(Let me also point out here that if you do have some experience with creating your own products, feel free to do so. It doesn’t have to contain 100 pages. It can be only a few pages, as long as you provide solid, valuable information.)

Finding Your Niche

When trying to figure out which niche to go after, the questions you want to ask yourself are…

What do I love to do the most? What am I most passionate about in life?

What subjects do I have strong emotional feeling towards?

What am I naturally good at or have an instinct for? (Provided it’s something you enjoy doing!)

If I were to wake up in the morning and choose to do one thing, what would that be?

What would express my creative intention and bring out the best in me while doing it?

How can I benefit myself and others if I were to express my creative intention?

To some, the answers may come very easily. And for some of us, it may require a little bit of soul-searching and self-discovery to get there.

If you’re having a hard time finding the answers, just get your mind going in that general direction by pondering on the above questions, especially before you go to bed at night (and until you fall asleep.) The power of focus is such that it will get your mind working in the background (while you’re sleeping) to bring the answers to you.

For now, you can simply start by asking…

“What are my favorite hobbies, interests, activities, etc.”

Or…

“What are some things I don’t know yet but have a burning desire to learn more about?”

Start a list and add all your favorites to it.

Dropshippers 101

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

To Be or Not To Be A Dropshipper?

Dropshippers are becoming more and more popular these days. Most dropshippers offer a turnkey drop ship service which entrepreneurs can sell their products on their own website or on ebay. Most droppshipper have partnered with some of the largest suppliers in the world. The good thing about the dropshipping business is that you don’t have to worry with the hassels of purchasing or stocking your own inventory nor do you have to worry with merchandise shipping or returns. The majority of suppliers will drop ship with no extra fees.

A lot of your dropshippers today offer a great number of products for drop shipping with about a 80 - 85% profit margin. The profit margin may vary a little depending on with dropshipper you sign up with. Through the suppliers dropshippers, can offer products that you can’t normally get at wholesale prices. Although there may be differences in the profit margins there is enough money to be made thru either your website or another auction site. Either way you should be able to create an nice income for yourself.

In order to be successful dealer in the dropshipping game, it’s going to require you doing research. Research is needed in order for you to sell your merchandise at the right price. As you already know if you’ve visited some of the auction websites, that the prices pretty much sell below the actual retail price and maybe even the wholesale price. The bottom line is that if you want to make a profit continually then you have to sell your product for the right price.

Dropshippers offers their products through an exclusive network which protect the dealer. Besides, if too many people had access to the exact same wholesale products then how can a dealer really make the money they want.

Now here’s where it can be sticky. There are some drop ship companies that charge minimal setup fees, and they tend to not give you the oh so good merchandise which leaves too to no profit margins. Then there are those companies with the high end merchandise that will have you to believe in the beginning that there is no charge but then after you fill out the application you find that there is a fee. Now, after paying the fee I’m sure you’re expecting to get a password that you can log right in and get started. Not, what you get is a message stating that you will be contacted by someone in a few days or so.

Once the individual gets back to you they ask you a few questions to find out if you’re really serious about being a dropshipper or if dropshipping is for you. A question they will ask is about your credit and about how much you have in your bank account. Then thereafter the first individual will forward you to another person. Now this is something that should be stated way up front so that you as a potential dealer know whether or not you should even continue filling out the application or for that matter wasting your time.

Do your research on Dropshippers. There is always something that they’re not telling you no matter who you’re doing business with. Some dropshippers will make this all sound good and easy when in fact there is much more to it. If it sounds too good to be true, then more then likely, it is too good to be true.

Be careful that you don’t just give your money away without asking the company questions first.

Here are a few questions you should consider asking:

1. Is there a fee for me to sign up? If so, what is the fee for?
2. Once I sign up what happens after that? Will I get a password immediately after signup?
3. Would I have to go through a qualifying process?
4. If I don’t qualify would I be able to get a refund for my sign up fee?
5. Are there any other startup fees after I qualify?
6. Before I become a dealer would you need to check my credit?
